Stretch Your Closet By Styling Light Colours For Winter
One of the easiest ways to get the most out of your closet is by styling light colours in the winter and learning how to style off-season pieces throughout the year. I have always had an aversion to putting my clothes in a box (literally and figuratively) as I always felt I would be missing out on interesting outfit combinations.
Since it’s March – technically still winter where I am – I thought I would use the example of styling my lighter spring / summer pieces in a winter outfit.
If you’re working with a low-buy year, styling light colours for winter is key to refreshing your closet without feeling the need to shop.

Tips to Style Light Colours All Year Round
1 – Get used to shifting your perspective on what clothes you have to wear when. For those of us who are super-organized, A-type personalities, this can be a little difficult, but once you wrap your head around the fact that clothes do not have to be compartmentalized, you will find so much more freedom in your closet!
2 – Choose your fabrics wisely: While you still can wear light-weight textiles in winter (more on that later), light-coloured fabrics in denim and thicker cotton look more natural because of their weight and structure. Balance them out with coordinated darker accessories, as well as classic winter pieces like tweed and fuzzy cotton.
3 – Layer light fabrics: If your summer garment of choice is both light in colour and in texture, layering these pieces with other lighter-weight winter layers is key to making the look feel seamless and balanced. A thin turtleneck with dainty silk is a great example of this.
4 – Ground it with neutrals: there’s nothing like a sophisticated neutral to lend some gravitas to lighter colours. Grey, navy, and black are solid go-tos to make sure your light colours don’t look out of place

One of my favourite styling tips to create an interesting outfit is to mix and match style genres – whether its glam with rock, or feminine with edgy, these quirky combos really can spice up the clothes you already have. Similarly, when you mix up the seasons in your closet, you can really stretch your garments use and get the most out of the clothes you already have.
