Back to Black Basics

I don’t normally shop, but once or twice a season when I see something I like I typically just grab it. I’ve come to know what I love so well, and sometimes won’t even try items on. Even though most of the pieces I accumulate are basics, I try to find something unique about every item so that it has good wear power in years to come.

For the winter season, I had my eye on all the mesh trends going on and thought hard about if this was something I could add to my closet without getting tired of it once the trend was over. I’m happy to have found this black mesh bodysuit on Shop Tobi and the answer is yes. I layer a lot in the winter, and I wear a lot of black. No matter once this trend is out of everyone else’s minds, it will suit my wardrobe all year round. The bell sleeve and polka dot mesh is the right amount of playfulness but the black tone and sleek silhouette suit my personal style. I’ve worn this layered under vests, sweaters, silk camis and blazers. For a more dressy look, I keep it super simple with jeans and a bralette – ooh lala!

I’ve also had a delicate choker on my shopping list for a while, so was really excited to find this one. I don’t wear too much jewelry, but I chose this piece because it is the perfect pairing for my many collared shirts – which I wear all the time.

Here are the factors I took into consideration when adding these pieces to my closet this season:

  • Do I like it enough to wear it even after the trend is over and done with?
  • Can I wear it in at least 3 outfit combinations with items I already own?
  • Does it suit my personal style?
  • Does it add a new element to my wardrobe, or is it just more of the same?

As always, thanks for reading!
